The Bacon Cheeseburger Eggroll, a new food from Winn & Sara’s Kitchen, takes top honors in the 2024 People’s Choice Best New Food Contest. The Iowa Sm’Oak’ed Roll from Whatcha Smokin? BBQ and Lobster Corn Dog from Destination Grille were also in the competition.
The popular bacon cheeseburger from Winn & Sara’s Kitchen is a fusion between American and Asian-inspired cuisine. The delectable creation features a rich and flavorful blend of seasoned ground beef, cooked smoky bacon, pickles and cheese filling, all wrapped in a crispy golden brown pastry eggroll, and then drizzled with Winn and Sara’s house-made burger sauce.
The two other foods vying for the 2024 title will also remain available throughout the Fair at their respective locations.
Iowa Sm’Oak’ed Roll: Located at Whatcha Smokin? BBQ,the Iowa Sm’Oak’ed Roll is a pork tenderloin stuffed with jasmine rice, jalapeno creamed corn, smoked poblano queso and Giddy Up Texas taco sauce, and finished with poblano ranch, Giddy Up sauce, green onion and smoked sesame seeds.
Lobster Corn Dog: Located at Destination Grille, find a reimagined State Fair favorite, the Lobster Corn Dog. Prepared with a full North American lobster tail and pulled through scratch-made batter seasoned with cayenne pepper and salt, the corn dog is hand-formed on a wooden skewer and lightly deep-fried to perfection. It’s finished with a lemon aioli drizzle and topped with paprika, herbs and 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
There were 9,204 votes for the People’s Choice Best New Food. The Bacon Cheeseburger Eggroll received 48.6% of the votes.
The People’s Choice Best New Food has been awarded since 2013.
New in 2024, Fairgoers could try new drinks and get badges on the official Iowa State Fair App. JR’s SouthPork Ranch won the Best New Drink (with Alcohol) for their Cowgirl Cooler, and Best New Drink (Alcohol Free) was awarded to the Bubbly Bar & Bistro for their Abracadabra Butterfly Lemonade. The Bubbly Bar & Bistro was also awarded the Best of Show. The Best Choose Iowa Fair Food was awarded to Cattlemen’s Beef Quarters.
